What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault?
2) What makes a great approach? - peak acceleration and early pole movement
3) What makes a great plant? - practice in a slide box with good feedback
4) What makes a great swing up? - gymnastic workouts with high-bar and ropes. practice stright leg sweeping speed.
5) What makes a great top? - trampoline bouncing with a bungee cord.
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - get plant down to second-nature and get shoulders strong for good rock-back rotation.
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - slide box for plant
rock-back drill on pull-up bar for rotation strength
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - start wide enough to get the pole bent, then decrease the width to about a fist wider than shoulder width.
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- work slowly toward higher heights.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - don't move from basic to advanced drills until
earlier ones are perfect. then don't get upside down until
vaulter is penetrating adequately and is vaulting to
the center of the pits.
