Are you an Athlete(Avid Pole Vaulter), Coach, or Both?
What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault?
2) What makes a great approach? - attaining maximum speed at take off
3) What makes a great plant? - top arm reaching as high as possible
4) What makes a great swing up?
5) What makes a great top? - being patient on the pole
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - work on running fast w/ the pole
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault?
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - young vaulters start wide to learn how to bend, as you become more comfortable, close it down.
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- start low, work up as needed. ie: increasing speed and decreasing fear.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - i don't like the rule with having the vaulters at or below the specified weight of the pole.
most young vaulters need to hold low and they will never learn how to bend a pole if they are
on a pole that is too stiff. i think good coached can tell what poles are safe for their vaulters to jump on.
