Ashley Moye Coaching Tips
Name:
Are you an Athlete(Avid Pole Vaulter), Coach, or Both?
What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
- my personal best is 8'3" I have been vaulting for 2 years. But disappointingly never gone to state because i always get 5th place!
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault? - think positive and have faith in your ability
2) What makes a great approach? - Make sure your steps are correct and have good speed down the runway
3) What makes a great plant? - plant early! (i usually plant in the middle of the box)
4) What makes a great swing up? - Make sure your feet are elevated over your head and pull with your arms to get all the height you can!
5) What makes a great top? - The timing has to be perfect. You must turn over at exactly the right moment
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - Dont slack off! Keep in shape, work on your upper body strength and abs!
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - vaulter's leg lifts
kicking the bar (learning to get your feet up!)
actually vaulting!
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - Only use a grip that is comfortable for you.
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- Start out at a safe height. If u try to start out too high in order to get more bend, u will probably land flat on your back. As you gain strenghth and experience, you will want to move your hand hold up (especially as you clear higher heights)
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - always have a spotter and safe equipment
