1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault?
2) What makes a great approach? - 1. A lot of speed
2. Experience, certainty, self-assurance
3) What makes a great plant? - 1. A high right hand (high shoulders, high hip,...)
2. Explosivity
4) What makes a great swing up? - 1. An explosive take-off
2. A long left leg
5) What makes a great top? - 1. A good timing
2. Power, explosivity (gymnastics!!!)
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - 1. Gymnastics
2. General athletics, weights
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - 1. Different kinds of penetration drills
2. Rings, rope,...
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - It depends on the vaulter's type.
Usually circa shoulder-wide!
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- So high as you can, if you have speed, a good
penetration and a powerful take-off.
For beginners: NOT so high!
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - Good coaches teaching good technics. With
a good technic, polevaulting is sure!
