What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
- Clearing 9'4 3/4" and becoming the state champion and state record holder for the state of Maine.
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault?
2) What makes a great approach? - Having speed and consistancy during all your approaches.
3) What makes a great plant? - Having a Strong drive with your knee and making sure your plant is tall and straight.
4) What makes a great swing up? - Good penetration in the pole and great abdominal and upper body strength.
5) What makes a great top? - A smooth turn and release of the pole.
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - Stay in shape by running frequently. Practicing drills with a pole to keep everything routine.
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - Pop-ups: driving knee drills and inversion drills.
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - A little less than shoulder width apart.
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- Hold where you feel comfortable. Start off low and as your vaulting skills improve, gradually move up a couple hand holds until you reach the end of the legal grip hold, and you are successfully getting through on the pole.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - Take the vault seriously. Don't fool around with the equipment and don't try something that shouldn't be done. If absolutly necessary, wear a helmet to prevent any possible head injuries.
