Soaring Sonia Coaching Tips
Name:
Are you an Athlete(Avid Pole Vaulter), Coach, or Both?
What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault? - the whole sequence from runway to clearance is important but if I were to choose one thing, speed !
2) What makes a great approach? - perfect check marks, and a gung-ho attitude towards the box !
3) What makes a great plant? - When you hit the tip of the pole right smack in the corner of the box with your arms raised full.
4) What makes a great swing up? - Keep your body away from the pole and try looking back towards the runway.
5) What makes a great top? - When you feel the pole recoil, there's a pulling sensation like when the elevator stops, then you start to pull up keeping you legs straight and together as possible over the crossbar and push off very vigorously away.
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - I'd go into cycling or soccer to keep those legs fast.
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - Pole running, check mark drills, upside down pull-ups
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - Whatever gives you the best results on a trial and error basis.
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- I'd say the top hand should be around 1 to 1 1/2 ft. from the top of the pole.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - Have somebody around to help you always.
