1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault?
2) What makes a great approach? - speed, consistency, and tempo
3) What makes a great plant? - reach high and slightly forward; and make sure you have a great press
4) What makes a great swing up? - power, a narrow grip, and full leg extension
5) What makes a great top? - get off the pole and a quick strong turn
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - weights,weights, and more weights. along with speed building or maintenance
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - stubby pole turns
drive drills
back flips for swings
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - shoulder width so the body is allowed to swing through freely
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- where it feels slightly uncomfortable, if it's at the top, so be it.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - keep the instruction simple, but don't move the vaulter through the phases until he has a working knowledge of the ones he has been taught.
