Mat Ferriter Coaching Tips
Name:
Are you an Athlete(Avid Pole Vaulter), Coach, or Both?
What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
- 11 feet, but that was with a broken pole. I will see what i can do when this NCAA season starts.
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault? - Attitude. You have to be crazy as hell. Once you loose that wild attitude you wont do very well.
2) What makes a great approach? - hype. It dosent matter how good your orm is or how fast your going, your vault will be nothing if you are not hyped and ready to explode.
3) What makes a great plant? - Plenty of water and a good amount of sunlight.
4) What makes a great swing up? - If you see everybody behind you upside down then it was a decent swing up.
5) What makes a great top? - getting over the bar. Form means nothing as long as you clear the bar. do whatever it takes.
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - WEIGHTS, you can never do too much weights. They will improve your vault a hell of a lot.
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault?
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width?
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- Go with what you feel comfortable. But remember that you wont clear high hights with a low grip.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - Stop vaulting on broken poles.
