What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault? - Practice, a good coach, and no fear.
A lot of concentration and desire.
2) What makes a great approach? - Controlled speed.
Consistent acceleration.
Knowing a successful start point for "you".
3) What makes a great plant? - Good placement.
Arm position and strength.
Overall, proper form.
4) What makes a great swing up? - Lots of practice, resulting in smooth
transition to inverted position.
Patience to allow the pole time to work.
5) What makes a great top? - Once again practice.
Powerful push up with full extension of
the body.
Good form on the turn-over.
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - If you can, don't have an off-season.
Otherwise, work-out,
run, and
do drills like rope inverts.
also, always keep pole vaulting on your mind.
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - Inverts
Turn-overs
Anything where I can vault.
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width?
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- Wherever it is comfortable and still allows
adequate penetration into the pit.
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - Practice with people around.
Check your pole.
Use a pole that is proper for "you".
Always make sure the mats are set-up right.
