What is your Personal Best or Your Athletes Best (Basic Background)
1) What is the single most important thing in the Pole Vault? - speed on the runway, good drive and trail leg
2) What makes a great approach? - speed, smooth rythem, acceleration at last 3 steps
3) What makes a great plant? - pole as close to vertical as possible
arms extended and pushing through the pole.
strong drive leg.
Backwards c position
4) What makes a great swing up? - strong knee drive and strong trail throughout
swing, rotation at the shoulders
feet at one o'clock positon
5) What makes a great top? - good extention close to the pole
strong pull and push-off and turn
6) What advice do you have for the off/pre season? - lots of gymnastics-walking on hands and giants
work on speed
lift upper body
lots of pull ups and dips
1000's of crunchies
7) What are your favorite drills for the Pole Vault? - rope-vaulting and running plant drills
8) What advice do you have on a Vaulters grip width? - i always hold and then bend my arm down the length of the pole
from there I take another 5-6 inches and place my other hand there.
9) What advice do have on a height of a Vaulters hand-hold?- if you have the speed cap it and "balls to the walls"
10) What advice do you have on how to keep the Pole Vault Safe? - it's not safe??
keep retards from vaulting
