A low carb diet is bad. Carbos are energy. Yes athletes need a lot of protein, but they also need a lot of carbos. It is also possible to be overly bulky with muscle. Shawn probably knows a lot more about training than you do so you might want to listen to him. Don't worry about your weight. As long as you are running a lot, doing some good power lifting, and eating a lot(healthy of course), it shouldn't be a problem.
